Arriving in Kandy by train we took one of the many tuk-tuks from the station to the Hotel. Although the hotel seems quite near it's not an easy walk with luggage in my opinion. The hotel is set back from a main street about 25m or so. It's a no-through road so no traffic. This enables the hotel to be both central to the city and nicely quiet at night. Checked in by the very pleasant receptionist and offered home made spiced chai ice-tea, very nice indeed! The hotel is family owned, compact, as most city centre hotels are, but bright and very clean. Bags taken to our room (stairs, no lift). Our room however was large, with a big king bed, good bedding. There were all the little niceties to make the room comfortable: tv, safe, functional shower / toilet, and WiFi worked fine. There was no bar as such, but I did find one across the main road that did take-away's ;) The hotel is around 10-15 minutes walk from the centre which is busy and bustling as a working city would be. Pavements are not great but it is walkable to the central shops, market and the lake. After a good nights sleep breakfast was a feast. We stayed 2 nights: the first morning we were served at the table (pic) the next buffet style as more guests. Juice, tea/coffee, fruit platter, french toast/toast, pastries, string hoppers and curry with sambal. So good! Went to the Kandy Lake Club cultural show the first evening and it was very good. The second day did a full day tour by tuk-tuk and saw everything that we wished to see (separate review) recommend both. We have no reservations about recommending My City Hotel for a comfortable stay in Kandy: The rooms are comfortable, the staff are great and the breakfast super!
